Tana Outliner Systems Lab: Workflow mapping

Visualize your Tana Outliner agent workflows with Mermaid diagrams, HTML, and Object-Process Methodology (OPM) so you can explain, improve, and automate them.

So far this season we've looked at using MCP to help design your Tana Outliner system; capture, route, and review the information that flows through it; and manage the subsequent agent threads and local files. But as systems evolve and grow more complex, you need a way to keep a birds-eye understanding of what your workflows are actually doing.

In this session we demonstrate methods for visualizing your Tana Outliner agent workflows with Mermaid diagrams, HTML, and Object-Process Methodology (OPM, an ISO-standard minimum-viable ontology). The goal isn't a perfect diagram. It's understanding a system clearly enough that you and your agent can explain it, improve it, and automate it.

We'll look at:

  • Why complex Tana Outliner workflows benefit from mapping
  • The basics of modeling with OPM
  • How these diagrams help you fill the gaps in your Tana Outliner system
