Daily notes. Like a magical notebook.

Start every day in Tana Outliner with a fresh blank page. The place you can do all your work from: plan your day, track habits, see all tasks due today, and jot down notes on anything. Use with supertags and search nodes, and you are guaranteed to never lose anything again.

Finally, your stray thoughts have a place to go.

Maintain focus by using the daily page as a place to save things for later. In the middle of one thing but had a brilliant thought related to another? Use Quick Add to save that thought to your daily notes for later processing. Even better, use supertags to send your thoughts to their right place, instantly.

Every day starts with a clean canvas, ready to get messy with you.

There is nothing like starting the day with a clean countertop. No need to feel guilty about cleaning up from last night — Tana Outliner gives you a brand new go at things every day, no questions asked. Unlike in other tools, the app always has a natural place to start your day with planning and review of what needs to be done. Bring over only what you need from previous days, so you can focus on just that. References ensure you are working on the same things no matter what day you choose to work on them.

Use the daily notes page to create and maintain focus.

The daily page is your partner in creating and maintaining focus, while getting tasks done. It receives anything, and can be anything you need it to be for today. Use the supertag template to assemble your most important tasks, the projects you want to focus on, your agenda for the day.

Make your daily notes page your daily driver.

Questions and answers

Can I open the day node of another workspace by default?

It is not possible to change which workspace's day node opens by default. It is fixed to your private workspace's day node.

However, you can open the sidebar and hold Option (Mac) or Alt (Windows) while clicking on a workspace to open its day node for today.

How can I get the task list on my daily notes back?

You may have seen a Tana Outliner setup that had a task list on the daily notes page, or had one from our early prototypes that has since disappeared. There is a simple way to get it back.

Go to any daily note and make a search that looks for:

  • all #task nodes
  • NOT DONE

Run it to confirm it is fetching the right things. Adjust how you want your tasks to look (set Display, Group, and Sort options here). Confirm changes to the view options and the query, then right-click the title of the search and select Move to Related content.

How can I set up Unsplash banners on my daily notes?

You can plug in your own Unsplash API key to get access to their images for the banners of your daily notes page. Ambassador Andre has a walkthrough of the setup on X.

This is an experimental feature and may change in the future.
