Introducing AI credits in Tana Free

What’s new for Free users?

Users on Tana Free will now have 500 monthly AI credits included. We’re continuously improving the AI features in Tana, and we want everyone to have a chance to test them regularly.

This quota will renew every month. If you use up the credits, you will have to upgrade to a paid plan to continue using AI features.

New users signing up from the website and mobile apps, will now start on Tana Free without having to add a credit card. When you are ready, you can choose to start a trial of Plus or Pro.

Alongside this, we’re also adding a few new limitations on the Free plan:

• Max. 3 additional workspaces beyond your personal workspace
• Can only use the default model in AI chat (GPT-4o at the moment)
• Limits on file uploads remain in place (5MB per file, 0.5GB total file storage)
• Creating new command nodes now requires a paid plan
• Mobile voice memos will save as audio if credits run out (can be transcribed later)
• The existing paid features Google Calendar sync, password-protected publishing, publishing templates, and Input API integrations (like Readwise) are still reserved for Plus and Pro

What can I do with AI in Tana as a user on Free?

With this change, Free users can now try AI features like real-time transcription, AI chat, and mobile voice memos. Usage of these features will required AI credits.

Let's say your managing one or more teams; use real-time voice transcription to record your feedback, use AI chat to reformat it for easy sharing in slack or elsewhere, then transcribe the review meeting with the team, so you have the full context of what was discussed. All of this will live in your notes, you can easily go back to it later.

You can also try recording voice memos on mobile while on the go, to have them ready transcribed when you get to your desk. If you apply a supertag to a mobile voice memos, Tana will try to auto-fill the fields.

What does upgrading to a paid plan in Tana give me?

The Free plan is the easiest way to start using Tana with AI, but the real power of Tana lives in Plus and Pro. Paid plans give you unlimited room to grow and connect your workflows:

Start transcribing meetings with one click from desktop notifications.

Protect and share with password-protected publishing.

Automate with command nodes and advanced AI workflows

Choose your AI model for tailored results, from leading providers like OpenAI (GPT), Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini).

Connect external tools like Readwise and custom APIs.

Higher monthly AI credit quota (2000 on Plus, 5000 on Pro) with option to buy top-ups if you run out.

Getting started

New users will automatically begin on the Free plan and can upgrade anytime from the pricing page to unlock Plus or Pro. If you’d like to try the full experience right away, you can also start a trial directly from tana.inc/pricing (credit card required).
